Our friends at the Putnam County Historical Society are hosting a fascinating program this May that shines a light on a lesser-known but meaningful part of our local history, Sisco, Florida. It is located within and adjacent to now Dunns Creek State Park.

On Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m., join them at the Bronson-Mulholland House in Palatka for a special presentation featuring Professor H. Stephen Hale, PhD, an accomplished anthropologist with an incredible background in archaeology, cultural studies, and environmental stewardship.

His work has taken him from Panama to Mexico to Japan, and now continues right here in Florida through his efforts with the Florida Park Service.

This program will explore the rich and layered history of Sisco, from Native American burial mounds and the steamboat era, to its role in the citrus industry and the lives of those who worked the land, including the community of Old Sisco. It’s a great opportunity to better understand the stories that shaped our region.

The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

We love seeing our neighboring organizations

preserving and sharing these important pieces of history, and this is one you won’t want to miss.
