As our country celebrates America’s 250th birthday, it is a good time to reflect on Melrose’s place in that history as well. Melrose was established in 1877, which means our town was founded closer to the birth of our nation in 1776 than it is to today. That is a pretty incredible perspective, especially as we look ahead to an exciting milestone of our own: Melrose will celebrate its 150th birthday in May 2027.

Historic Melrose, Inc. is proud to help celebrate America’s birthday tonight at the Daurer History Center in Heritage Park during First Friday Art Walk. Inside the historic museum, visitors can enjoy a special Americana display highlighting the spirit of our nation’s history. We will also be serving free chocolate or vanilla ice cream cups while supplies last. Ice cream is first come, first served, so be sure to stop by early if you would like one.

We hope you will join us tonight to celebrate 250 years of America. It is a great opportunity to enjoy Art Walk, visit the Daurer, and take a moment to appreciate both our nation’s history and the history of our own community.
