If you’re looking for a simple, family-friendly outing this weekend, here’s a wonderful one right in our neighboring community of Palatka.
The Palatka Railroad Preservation Society is hosting an Open House on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Palatka’s historic train station, and it sounds like a treat for all ages.
The Browning Railroad Museum will be open, and both of their scale model railroads will be up and running, which is always a highlight to see in action.
Whether you have a train enthusiast in your family or just enjoy stepping into a bit of local history, this is an easy and worthwhile way to spend a few hours. Even better, there is no admission fee, making it an accessible outing for everyone.
We love seeing organizations like this preserving and sharing the stories that shaped our region. If you go, let us know! We’d love to hear about your visit!
Check out their website
railsofpalatka.org for information on the society and its activities.

Also happening that same day, our neighbors at the Clay County Historical Society are celebrating a major milestone with their 60th Anniversary Railroad Festival in Green Cove Springs. Held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Historic Triangle, this free, family-friendly event will feature guided tours, living history demonstrations, museum exhibits, train collections, local vendors, and hands-on activities for all ages.
